The Fall/Winter 2009 2010 Balenciaga women collection is definitely “Couture” – it is developed in the spirit of the house, with the 60’s saris and the drapes that are suspended and held on the décolleté, which is very specific to the work of Cristobal Balenciaga.
The silhouette is definitely vigorous, energetic, almost nervous and fluid. Sometimes transparent, but structured at the shoulders, the silhouette ends with “I” shape. There is as always a mix of masculinity and feminity.
Fabrics are mainly silk, silk velvet, satin and jacquards, to give them even more richness they are printed or embroidered, creating a superposition of designs and shiny aspect. Colours are rich, deep and warm. Classical and timeless like black, navy and grey, mixed with other typical Couture colours that refer to the traditional shade of satins and prints as for blue, ochre, green, pink red and violet.
The richness of the collection is exaggerated with cuffs. Each look has ornamented jewel bracelets; some are reproduction from the archives of the house.
